Yes, roadworks are a regional thing, I think the Romans invented them for conquering Britain. ;-)

It's traditional in some parts of Britain to have major roadworks, or trenches dug up in roads, just before Christmas, so there is as much disruption and despoiling of the Christmas good cheer.

The roadwork signs gleefully state "Work commences 13th November and will continue for 12 weeks" just so Christmas shops can lose much needed revenue, especially with low sales during our extended heatwave etc... ;-)
